How To Burn Tummy Fat

The midriff has always been one of the most problematic areas for people, whether they are overweight or not.

Most people want to lose tummy fat or achieve the toned, lean look of models. So, they opt for spot reduction.

However, spot reduction is nothing but a lie. No amount of sit-ups and crunches can help shrink the tummy if there is no reduction in the overall percentage of fat in the body. Working non-stop without calorie reduction yields nothing but muscle pain and frustration.

That said, it is possible to lose tummy fat and get a toned look by combining the right kinds of food with the right forms of exercise.

Foods that Reduce Tummy Fat

Did you know that some foods trigger the storage of excess fat in the middle? On the other hand, there are other foods that reduce tummy fat. The types of food you eat affect your midriff just as much as the amount of food taken in.

Foods that strain the chemical balance of the body invariably lead to weight gain in the tummy region. The prime examples of such foods are caffeine and nicotine, which are stimulants that elevate blood pressure and heart rate. These alarming responses put the body in the defense mode. When the body is under stress, it releases cortisol, the stress hormone. Cortisol slows down the metabolism. This in turn causes the body to cling to excess calories and deposit these as abdominal fat.

High deposits of abdominal fat pose serious health risks because fat in the tummy region is associated with cancer, heart diseases and elevated blood sugar levels.

The problem is compounded by insulin production. The body produces insulin to absorb glucose. Certain foods cause the production of excess insulin. When insulin is produced in the body, blood glucose levels come crashing down. This causes severe hunger which leads to excessive eating and weight gain in the abdominal region. Artificial sweeteners come under this category of foods.

So far we have talked about foods that bring on tummy fat. But there are foods that can melt tummy fat too. These are foods that do not trigger symptoms of self preservation or drive up insulin levels. Nutritious foods filled with fiber release nutrients slowly and keep us feeling satiated for longer periods of time. These include green vegetables, fiber rich fruits, lean meat, tofu, whole nuts, avocados and whole grains.

Green teas are particularly healthy for the body as these contain phytonutrients that perk up the metabolism and provide a host of other benefits.

Exercises that Reduce Tummy Fat

Along with healthy eating habits, the right exercise is vital to developing beach board abs. While spot training exercises are largely unsuccessful, it is possible to bring down the overall fat percentage of the body through cardio and strength training. Exercises that strengthen and tone the abs help develop attractive six-pack abs which will slowly appear as fat dissolves.

Cardio exercises include walking, swimming, jogging or biking. You could even take up martial arts or simply spend a productive few hours in the garden. Choose any activity you enjoy and spend three to five hours each week on the activity.

Strength training is equally important. Focus on certain muscle groups each time you train. Train for at least three hours every week.

Finally, drink plenty of water. If you do not stay hydrated, your body cannot metabolize the food you eat and keep you feeling and looking great.
